Am I SISU'ed

Most of the times during the growing up years , girls have been told or taught directly or indirectly, that boys are the stronger sex and girls are the weaker ones. And most of the times, they do grow up believing it, or rather imbibing it within themselves and their systems . Fortunately for our children  atleast, most of them will grow against the tide, disbelieving in this norm .

My parents were blessed with two girls. Both of us were brought up in the best possible environment,  with the best possible values, where there was no scope of discrimination and we were always given complete freedom to carve our own niches. As an adolescent and a young adult, I did not bother to guage my strength within, since I was always cocooned within the boundaries of my family. Reading stories and listening to people talk about their hardships and challenges, always made me under-estimate myself w.r.t my resilience quality.

From childhood, to education , to career , to marriage and finally the motherhood , was all a smooth sail, until it suddenly dawned on us ; something that swept the ground of our feet and left us numb , speechless not knowing what to do , what lied in future. Our second child was diagnosed with a chronic diseases right at birth and with it began our endless visits to the doctors and the hospital. It was as if my life was static, and everyone around me were moving at a roaring pace and I was just unable to catch up with them. Finally after a fierce battle of 10 long years , he left us for a better place, hopefully, where pain didn't exist.
So, what was it then and what is it now , that made me withstand these trying times. Was I born with SISU or did I acquire it over the years of growing up . What is SISU ? Well SISU is a FINNISH word for that last bit of strength lying deep within you , but difficult to draw out because you need extreme perseverance to reach that kind of strength. Surely enough, SISU can be acquired over a period of time. It is a philsophy that states that "what must be done, will be done, regardless of what it takes." I could do it only because of my dear ones; my family, my friends and my well wishers.

It is always better to over- estimate yourself than doing a vice versa because with immense faith and confidence in Yourself and the Almighty comes your Stoic Determination , Your SISU to face your forseen and unforeseen fears. Get Inspired and Do Inspire . Empower Yourself to Empower Others.  And lastly , in whatever situation you belong to , don't let that little child within you , that YOU get lost . Treasure it, Cherish it since it will always turn around your weaknesses into your Strenghts , Your SISU

  5. It's such a positive read, Gayatri.

Such a wonderful way to tell your story and inspire the world to be stronger at the same time. It got me teary-eyed.

Sometimes, opening up to the world and showing your vulnerabilities makes you a tad bit stronger, no?

I guess, these words were important for me to read today. *jumps and hugs*

    1. Thanks Neha. And yes . I have been sleeping over this for a very long time. The Yes No phase just lingered over. Also because I didn’t want to make myself look sympathetic or just do it to gain applauds. So there was a thin line to cross that way. This was just like a diary for me where we are trying to strike normalcy in an abnormal situation
